Developmental Educators
Developmental Educators (DEs) provide specialized services for people with disabilities, using a human rights framework to promote full and effective inclusion and participation in society. DEs consider the whole person and their socio-cultural context, focusing on the lived experiences, needs, goals, and aspirations of individuals with disabilities.
The services provided by DEs include collaboration with people with disabilities to promote inclusion and address attitudinal and environmental barriers.
They apply a range of professional and technical skills, such as:
- Developmental, behavioral, learning, and social theories
- Assessment of individuals and their environments
- Collaborative planning and goal setting
- Teaching skills through evidence-based instructional strategies
- Supporting life transitions
- Programming, monitoring, and evaluation
- Advocacy
- Community education
- Capacity building
These services are designed to ensure that people with disabilities can achieve their full potential and actively participate in society.
Developmental educators and NDis
Developmental Educators are recognized and acknowledged by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) as professionals who support individuals with disabilities across their lifespan, from early childhood to adulthood, enhancing their social and economic participation and capacity building.
All Developmental Educator services are set out by the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and use the below line item:
