NeuroConnections: Forming Bonds Through Shared Interests

Join our autistic-led, face-to-face mentoring programs designed for neurodivergent individuals of all ages.

These groups provide a safe, supportive, and affirming environment where participants can:

  • Build confidence and self-esteem
  • Form genuine social connections
  • Share experiences and interests with peer
  • Be supported by autistic mentors who act as relatable role models

Our approach celebrates neurodiversity and encourages each participant to express themselves authentically while learning from and alongside others. Below are just some of the interest based groups here at Walking the Journey.

Group Information

Each group is tailored to meet peers of similar ages:

  • Ages 3–5
  • Ages 7–10
  • Ages 10–12
  • Ages 12–15
  • Ages 15–18
  • Ages 18–25
  • Ages 25+

Each group has a capacity of 5–10 participants.

Cost: The cost for each group depends on the number of participants registered and includes support provided by a Developmental Educator and a Therapy Assistant:

  • Goal-setting session before starting the program
  • Weekly 2-hour group sessions, plus case follow-up
  • Outcome report at the end of the program

The cost is based on the hourly rates of these professionals and apportioned between the number of participants. This structure ensures that the skills being targeted are individualised for each participant.

Funding:  You may choose to pay privately or use NDIS funding under Capacity Building – Improved Daily Living. If your plan is managed, please check with your plan manager to ensure the appropriate funding is available before enrolling.

Location:  Groups will run across Illawarra and Shoalhaven, with exact locations confirmed based on registrations.

Attendance Commitment:  When you enroll, you are securing your spot in the group. To ensure each participant receives the best support, groups operate with a set therapist-to-participant ratio, so casual attendance or drop-ins are not available.
